The NFL’s 4 Top Paid Players

The Nfl’s Top Paid Players

In a football scoreboards feature, we talk about the not well known fact about NFL players’ pay, and listed the top 4 best paid players in the game at the moment.

Among all the excitement and drama that follows a professional sports player around, none of it is perhaps more interesting for the fans to gossip about than the contract their favourite player has just signed and how many 0’s (zeros) are involved.

Fist of all, let us establish that only players with great talent and ability, who get the biggest cheer when their name appears on the football scoreboards are given contracts with 6 0’s (zeros) trailing behind them. Therefore, when a contract is announced for a particularly talented player player, figures such as $50 million, $75 million, $100 million are thrown around and the fans go like: WOAH! However, in actuality, the figures being announced are more like smoke screens to impress the player signing the contract. The figure announced in the contract is the “maximum” amount a player can “earn” through various incentives for playing well, but if the player gets injured or starts becoming ineffective on the field, he will only get the base pay (guaranteed pay) mentioned in the contract. This base pay doesn’t even cross the bar for being termed “measly” when compared with the complete worth of the contract. The player, then, gets only the base pay until the time of the contract runs out, essentially being cut before the contract is up. With this in mind, let us see which NFL players have the highest offered base pay (guaranteed pay):

1. Tom Brady – it was announced very recently; in September of this year, that Tom Brady and the New England Patriots successfully reached a 4 year contract that would make him the highest paid player in terms of highest average yearly salary. The contract is expected to be valued at around $18 million per annum.

2. Eli Manning – after Tom Brady’s contract with the New England Patriots, Eli Manning has been pushed to the 2 spot for the highest paid NFL player. Eli Manning’s contract stands at an annual average salary of $16.3 million.

3. Peyton Manning – this really is not a shock; he is a great player and continues to show his true worth for the Colts. The Colt’s quarterback has earned the guaranteed base pay which amounted to $15.8 million in 2010. Peyton Manning is, however, the player with the highest pay for the 2010-2011 season when his guaranteed pay and payouts from various endorsements are added. Oh! And this is his last year of the contract.. but worry not fans there is every possibility that he will have a new one in no time.

4. Nnamdi Asomugha – the Oakland Raiders had the market of the defensive backs up in frenzy when they offered Nnamdi Asomugha a generous extension, with a guaranteed pay of $28.6 million up from $14.3 million for the years 2009 and 2010.
